About the Graduate School of Education
The Graduate School of Education (GSE), one of the first schools of education in comprehensive universities in China, was founded in October 2000. It grew out of the Institute of Higher Education, the Institute of Economics of Education and the Audio-Visual Education Center. Professor MIN Weifang serves as the current dean of the School, who also serves as CCP Secretary of Peking University and chairman of the University Council.
GSE mainly focuses on the theoretical studies and application in the field of education, especially trying to seek solutions to critical issues. It also provides advisory services for education policy makers and institutions of higher education. The School provides 3 doctoral programs, which are higher education, economics and administration of education, and education theory, and 3 master programs, which are higher education, economics and administration of education, and educational technology. Among these disciplines, economics and administration of education is the first doctoral program of the discipline established in China and has been accredited as a national key discipline by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
By the end of 2007, there have been 42 faculty members and staff working at the School, including 33 researchers. It also invites more than 30 scholars of global renown as its honorary professors, guest professors and adjunct professors. For a long time, GSE has undertaken several research projects, centering on major theories and practical issues in the development of education in China. Many of their achievements have been recognized and put into use by the government, having a great impact on the reform and development of higher education in China.
In the next 5 years, GSE will distinguish itself in research and education with the practice of management by participation and the project responsibility system.
