Public Teaching Building of PKU


    Project Background
    Peking University now enrolls more than 30,000 full-time students including 14,000 undergraduates, and more than 16,000 master and doctoral candidates. In order to maintain our excellence in education, in recent years, we have endeavored to promote the reform of teaching and the renovation and construction of teaching facilities. The Public Teaching Building is one of the key projects addressing the purpose.
    Location
    The Public Teaching Building is located in the northeast corner of the campus, with the Nong Yuan Canteen in the east and the Teaching Buildings of Sciences in the north.
    Project Information
    The project covers a land of 1.04 hectares and a building area of 36,512 square meters, composed of a ground area of 21,329 square meters and underground area of 15,183 square meters. The planned investment is RMB 150 million.
    With the general layout of "L", the building consists of 78 classrooms, mainly of large and medium sizes, with the maximum capacity of 8,450 persons. Lecture theatres of large size with the capacity of more than 200 persons are located on the first and second floors, classrooms of medium size with the capacity of 50 -170 persons are mainly on the third and fourth floors, and classrooms of small size with the capacity of about 30 persons mainly on the fifth floor.
    Characterized with grey bricks and slope roofing, the design integrates modern techniques and traditional architecture on campus. It fits perfectly into the surrounding environment with its serene elegance and simplicity.
    The building was officially put into use in September 2007, and has greatly improved the environment of studies for more than 30,000 students.
