The University Highlights Faculty Excellence with Awards Presentation |
PKUEF---on the afternoon of 13th Oct, 2008, the University celebrated the Faculty Excellence Awards Presentation Ceremony of this year in the PKU Hall. The University leaders and representatives of donors, namely City Garden Group, ICBC, Chia Tai Group, P&G, Bank of Beijing, Founder Group, AP TECH Corporation, attended the ceremony and presented the awards to the winners.
"Faculty construction is crucial to the development of the University, which could not be possible without the financial support and spiritual motivation of the community," Secretary of CPC Committee of the University MIN Weifang thanked donors for their generous support to the education and teaching of the University. He congratulated the winners and expressed his high esteems for their hardworking. He added, "I believe the joint efforts of all parties will ensure us more glories and achievements in our course of developing into a world-class leading university."
In total 10 grants worth of over RMB 4.6 million were awarded to more than 220 faculty members for acknowledgement of their achievement in the past year. Namely the 10 awards were: Yang Fuqing & Wang Yangyuan Academician Teaching Grant, Chia Tai Teaching Grant, Founder Teaching Grant, Dongbao Teaching Grant, P&G Teaching Grant, Shue Yan Teaching Grant, ICBC Teaching Grant, Bank of Beijing Teaching Grant, Baosteel Teaching Grant, and Guohua Distinguished Scholars Award.
According to Executive Vice Secretary WU Zhipan, the faculty excellence grants of this year outsized those of last year in terms of the amounts of prizes and the number of winners. And this year also marked the premier of Guohua Distinguished Scholars Award, funded by chairman of the Board of City Garden Mr. YANG Guoqiang, with the annual size of RMB 3 million to 6 recipients. Prof. YUAN Xingpei, Dept of Chinese Linguistics and Literature, Prof. WANG Bangwei, School of Foreign Languages, Academician CHEN Jia'er, School of Physics, Academician TU Chuanyi, School of Earth and Space Sciences, Academician CHEN Weifeng, School of Basic Medical Sciences, and Academician ZHANG Lihe, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences were the first to win this honor.
The grants assessment was launched in May, 2008, based on the principle of being just, fair and open. It went through a series of standard procedures including notice issuing, department recommendation, preliminary evaluation by the functional departments, publication on the website, and then the final list of winners.
